He’d been doing the job tv regularly when his breakout position as Dr. George Alonzo “Gonzo” Gates on Trapper John, M.D., arrived together in 1979, and now, Harrison can be found tonight on American Housewife, starring Katy Mixon and Diedrich Bader.
Harrison’s participating in Dan, a cat-loving former flame of Kathryn (Wendie Malick). It’s déjà vu all about again for the actors, as they’ve appeared alongside one another on each Very hot in Cleveland and in the Hallmark film Following All These Decades.
In addition to chatting about his Housewife gig, Harrison fielded some questions from Tv set Insider about other credits such as his role as cutthroat Michael Sharpe on Falcon Crest, why he obtained his spouse and children out of Los Angeles, and which motion picture he’s most regarded for – and if you believe it is for Not For Girls Only the Television set film in which he performed a stripper, you’d be mistaken!
Did Wendie advise you for this part of her Tv set ex as you two have labored alongside one another prior to?
Gregory Harrison: They may have gone to Wendie [and asked for her input], but I didn’t inquire her. She has encouraged me before to perform an on-air boyfriend. We get along so very well and I consider we have superior chemistry. We actually get pleasure from each individual other. I was thrilled to do the job with her once more. I just appreciate her.
What can you tease about your character, Dan?
I really do not want to give away the plot points, but there’s a ‘Hugh Hefner-ish’ appear and feel to this dude I’m actively playing. He’s unique. My character [has] cats and producers questioned if I minded performing with them. I reported confident, I have some of my have. They reported, ‘Good! We have six of them!’ An [associate director] after explained to me ‘working with actors is like herding cats,’ but these types had been amazing.
You’ve also been occupied with the Hallmark Channel?
Sure. They’ve been good to me. I have done the very last two seasons of Chesapeake Shores. We’re waiting to hear on future period. I’ve been doing work on a generation of a enjoy titled Circling. It is a terrific participate in that I’m hoping to take all the way to New York. I really like performing theater. It’s like heading to the gymnasium for an actor for the reason that you get back in touch with your total overall body. When you do the job with cameras, you tend to lock yourself into your marks.
Your credits study like a Tv encyclopedia. When you’re out and about, what series are you most spotted for?
It’s humorous now…for a lengthy time it was Trapper John MD due to the fact it was on for so long and was a highly-rated exhibit the total time. I’m a surfer however and I did a browsing [feature film] known as North Shore. It is turn out to be this legendary movie, almost like The Rocky Horror Picture Show in that it has midnight screenings and everybody appreciates every line. The entire world I journey in, which is usually beaches and ocean-relevant things, I’m actually acknowledged for that. I enjoy it.
You stepped in to participate in the villain position, Michael Sharpe, on Falcon Crest in its final season. Lovers would have liked to have seen that collection revived as Dallas was a although back.
Wouldn’t that have been enjoyable? Michael Sharpe was one of my favorite characters, my very first evil man. Michael was charmingly evil and that was a enjoyable job. I didn’t seriously get to cross paths with Jane Wyman (Angela). She was fairly substantially off the present when I came on. We might have shot some thing [together] that aired afterwards on in the period. I also did a mini-series, Fresno, with Carol Burnett, which was a satire of all these primetime soaps.
You moved your family members out of Los Angeles and Hollywood to increase your young children in a lesser town where neighbors essentially wave to each individual other with their whole hand – not just a person digit.[Laughs] Sure. Back in the 1990s, I bought out of L.A. and raised my young children [in a town] on the coast. I imagined that would dissuade them from wanting to get into the business enterprise when they have been young ones. It worked in that they experienced ‘normal’ childhoods, but two of my three daughters are in the small business so it didn’t thrive in retaining them absent from it [ultimately]. The tension of little ones having to abide by in their folks’ footsteps is fairly prevalent in Hollywood and Southern California. I didn’t want them to truly feel that.
What would you like to deal with up coming?
I’ve been undertaking a few independent movies in excess of the past couple of a long time. They ended up exciting to work on since they reminded me of why I go into performing in the initial place. I’d like to do extra of those.
Any probability Dan will be back again on American Housewife?
It is probable. My character doesn’t die. It is a wonderful team of easy-going and very innovative men and women. I’d really like to do another episode with that team. In some cases you walk absent [from a guest starring role] stating ‘Thanks goodness, I survived!’ But, I did not really feel that way about this team at all.
